This Valentine's themed addition activity is suitable for Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st Grade students who are learning to add. This Valentines Day addition resource covers numbers 0 - 20. Students are asked to use cubes to build the addition calculation on each heart. Once they have built each addition calculation they can stand them on top of each heart making a tower.

Full Description of Valentines Day Addition Towers
 
Children read the addition calculation then build the first part of the calculation using one color of unifix cubes. Children then add on the next number in the calculation using a different color of unifix cubes. Children can then count the total number of cubes to get the answer to the calculation. Once your students have built each calculation they can place each tower on top of the corresponding heart.
 
How to use this resource
 
This Valentines Day addition resource is ideal for using with smaller groups or as a Math center. You can laminate or place this activity into dry erase pockets before use to make the mats more durable.
This addition activity is perfect if your students need a more hands-on approach to help them get to grips with addition. As your kids are asked to use 2 different colors of cubes to represent each addition calculation, this really helps them visualize what they are doing when adding two numbers or amounts together.
