Sentence Building Game ESL Sentence Writing Structure Worksheet for Kids

This sentence writing activity is perfect for Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade students who are learning to write sentences. This roll and write a sentence activity asks students to build a sentence using the sentence building mats and encourages them to think about how to structure and write sentences using correct grammar. Students can roll dice to choose different parts of their sentence - who, what, where and when. There are 12 different mats included with various levels of difficulty as well as 5 different worksheets for your students to write and draw their sentences on also with various levels of difficulty.

UPDATE!

I have added vocabulary cards and word mats representing each word used for each sentence part - who, what, where & when. These vocabulary cards and word mats can be used as hands-on teaching tools to help you teach the sentence parts to your students. They can also be used by you or your students to build and visualise sentences. These extra resources are also fantastic for adding to your Literacy display or area.

How to use this resource

Depending on which mat your student has chosen, they will be aiming to choose 2, 3 or 4 different parts to their sentence. Your student then rolls a dice either 2, 3 or 4 times to choose the who, what, where and when parts of their sentence. Your student can then write and draw their sentences on the corresponding response worksheet.

As this sentence writing resource is differentiated you are sure to find a suitable variation of this activity to suit the needs of all your students.

As this sentence structure resource includes 12 different mats it can be used with your entire class ensuring most of your students receive a different worksheet.

This sentence writing activity can also be used with smaller groups or as a Literacy Center. You can either laminate each response worksheet or place it into a dry erase folder before use ensuring the worksheets can be used over and over again. Your students can use dry erase markers when completing the activity then simply wipe out their answers when they are done!
